Vishal Tomar

Nine years across engineering, product and management roles means I weigh technical trade-offs as carefully as customer value and business impact.
Bio
I grew up in New Delhi, matured in Saskatoon, and now live in Toronto. I’m a Senior Software Engineer at CGVantage, a Canadian cybersecurity firm that does PCI and SOC assessments for Fortune 500 companies. I rejoined in 2026 after nearly four years there as Product Design Lead, from 2022 to 2025, where I designed and launched an enterprise compliance platform and led discovery, roadmap and sprint planning for a squad of four developers. Earlier, I led engineering at Cubbi, was Technical Product Manager and then backend developer at Diitalk, and was a full-stack developer at Andgo Systems. I have a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan, with minors in Math and Entrepreneurship.
How I work
I work across three areas: technical feasibility and system constraints, design thinking that starts from real user pain, and business strategy tied to clear ROI. In practice, that means defining the MVP, mapping the roadmap, and turning client feedback into user stories the team can ship.
I start by listening to users and stakeholders until we all see the same problem and the same goal. I like cross-functional teams with open communication, where people stay optimistic, solve problems creatively, and have what they need to do their best work.
Beyond the job title
I’ve worn a lot of hats: coffee shop owner, marketing consultant, photographer, videographer, web developer, tattoo artist and clothing designer. That range is why I can pick up whatever tool an idea needs and explain it to almost any audience.
I’ve lived in India and Canada for decades and spent months at a time in the USA, Mexico, the Netherlands, Vietnam and Australia. Each place showed me different problems and the different ways people solve them. It has given me a wide range of experiences to draw from. It has taught me to understand users whose needs differ from mine, and it makes me a better problem solver for all kinds of people.
